Pediatric Dental Seminar and Research Coordinator
The Pediatric Dentistry seminar series covers in depth almost all of the clinical techniques necessary for providing advanced Pediatric Care. Basic operative and surgical skills that were developed in Undergraduate training are not mentioned in the seminars, as they should already be well developed. The series is presented over two years and every attempt is made not to duplicate any presentations. However, due to the necessity of introducing the first year residents to the course some repetition may occur.

The Research Development is necessary for continuing the integrity of the advanced education curriculum.
In addition, residents learn to be objectively critical of published research. Research is being performed at Argonne National Laboratories, Center for Comparative Medicine, Developmental Center for Therapeutics, Ann and Robert H. Lurie Special Infectious Disease laboratory, Robert H.
Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Research Center, Human Genomics Core, Bisco Inc., NUseq.and DQSC.  This Pediatric Dental residency is the only one in the nation to perform Synchotronic radiation studies on remineralization and demineralization. It is also the first to perform Probiotic research (IRB approved) on dental caries in children. In addition, it was the first to complete deep sequencing, whole genomics and metatranscriptomics on the oral microbiome, in children with A.S.D., normotypical healthy children and “blue zone” children. The first whole genome deep sequencing of the nasal microbiome was also just completed. We have just completed a multi-phase cancer cell line project with humanized mice and prebiotic supplementation and determined that xylitol inhibits tumor growth and lengthens survivability. The metabolomics analysis uncovered the mechanism of action.
